DT Mechanisms - KS1 Sliders and Levers - Researching!

(0)
This engaging and purposeful lesson enables children to understand what slider and lever mechanisms are and consider their uses. The lesson was originally taught as a part of a series of lessons created to guide children towards creating polar slider and lever scenes, but the resources can easily be adapted to fit your own particular project. This first lesson helps children to: -Understand what slider and lever mechanisms are; -Consider objects, vehicles and tools that use slider and lever mechanisms; -Understand how slider and lever mechanisms work, including introducing children to the key vocabulary (e.g. bridge, slot, pivot, etc); -Begin thinking about design considerations for creating a polar slider/ lever mechanisms picture. Included is an eye-catching and comprehensive 17-slide PowerPoint presentation, and a research template (in both Word and PDF). These lessons were originally created for children in years 1-2, but may be adapted for slightly older and younger year groups. The other lessons in the series are available on this site individually, or all of the lessons can be purchased as a part of a bundle.

This series of three fun and original collective worship sessions has been designed to develop children’s understanding of the value of wisdom. Each session focuses on a different feature of ‘being wise’: Seeking Help Dealing with Hazards Collaborating Each session follows a similar structure for developing children’s knowledge and understanding: -Gathering: bringing the worship together, thinking about the key themes and vocabulary; -Engaging: Using a variety of strategies to engage the children in the main idea, before linking the theme to different stories and quotes from the Bible (with a range of discussion opportunities); -Reflecting: Relating the key ideas to a modern context and the lives of the children, thinking about what has been learnt and can be applied; -Sending: Opportunities for linked song and prayer. Each session includes a comprehensive, engaging PowerPoint presentation and a hyperlinks to the necessary videos and hymns, in addition to copies of any readings/ stories and speaker guidance notes.

Wisdom Collective Worship! (Focus on Collaboration)

(0)
This fun and original collective worship aids children in understanding the value of wisdom. Specifically, it focuses on having the wisdom to know when to collaborate with others. It was delivered as a part of a series of three worship sessions on wisdom (available as a bundle), but works equally well as a standalone worship session. This is achieved through: -Recalling the definition of wisdom and thinking about how we can show the characteristics of being wise; -Thinking about what the word ‘collaboration’ means and discussing what we know about hazards; -Watching an age-appropriate video of different examples of collaboration from popular culture (hyperlinked); -Reading about Jesus and his effective collaboration with the apostles; -Relating these teachings to the modern world - discussing how others have shown collaboration to achieve great things, and thinking about how we can show collaboration in our own lives; -Singing a hymn relating to working with others, before reflecting through prayer. The session includes a comprehensive, engaging PowerPoint presentation and a hyperlink to the necessary video and hymn. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to consider how collaborating and using the wisdom of others can help us in our lives. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guiding notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

Wisdom Collective Worship! (Focus on 'Seeking Help')

This fun and original collective worship aids children in understanding the value of wisdom. It was delivered as the first in a series of three worship sessions on wisdom (available as a Bundle) although it works equally as well as a standalone session. In this session, a particular focus is placed on defining wisdom and understanding that wisdom sometimes means seeking support from others, to help us to make wise choices. This is achieved through: -Defining wisdom and thinking about how we can show the characteristics of being wise; -Identifying times in which we might need to seek support; -Reading and understanding a child-friendly reading of 1 Kings 3:3–15; 2 Chronicles 1:1–13 in which KIng Solomon asks God for wisdom; -Analysing a bible quote from proverbs about the value of seeking advice; -Relating these teachings to the lives of the children - considering how they can seek support both in their learning and at break/ lunchtimes (without relying too much on their teachers/ adults!); -Singing a hymn relating to seeking support and reflecting through prayer. The session includes a comprehensive, engaging PowerPoint presentation, a hyperlink to the necessary hymn, and both a PDF and Word copy of the script for the fable. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to consider how wisdom and seeking support can aid us throughout our lives. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guiding notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!
